The Jaques Family has been involved with SOCO for the past three years. Parents Jamie and Matt both work at Rock Ridge Elementary School where they started a Red Shirt Rookies program while also volunteering as coaches.
Their son, Jackson, has been on the Youth Activation Committee (YAC) for over a year. Jackson is also involved in Mesa Middle School’s Unified Sports Team and their Partners Club. He recruited his sister, Karly, and his cousin, Colin, to join the YAC this year as well. Karly also participates in the Red Shirt Rookies program her mom started. Last year, at the Mesa Middle School Unified basketball game, Jackson played in the game and Jamie brought Karly and other athletes and partners from Rock Ridge to volunteer as fans in the stands!
As a family, the Jaques have participated in several Polar Plunges over the years. Jamie shares that having the opportunity to be involved with so many wonderful SOCO athletes and unified partners has been an incredibly rewarding experience for their family, and tons of fun! When asked what each family member’s favorite part about SOCO is, they all had different experiences to share. Jackson and Karly enjoy meeting new people and spending time with the athletes, Matt loves seeing how kind and accepting athletes and partners are to one another, and Jamie is inspired by the way SOCO is growing and impacting more and more people. The Jaques Family describes SOCO as inspiring, and they are indeed an inspiring family to Special Olympics Colorado!
