We have several unique and specialized volunteer opportunities. Unless we have noted otherwise, the application and approval process is:

1.  Complete the Class A Volunteer Form along with an attached clear photo of your primary photo ID.

2. If you submitted electronically, please submit a clear digital copy of your photo ID by email to Since you will be sending the photo separately from you application, please include your full name and phone number in the email.

3. Complete the online Protective Behaviors Quiz

4. When you receive a link from us to complete a Background Check, please complete the form and pay the $16 application fee (occurs once every three years).

After you complete Steps 1 through 4, you will be contacted by our Volunteer Manager Claire Viater who will then get you connected to the appropriate Special Olympics Colorado staff member to get you started. We look forward to working with you!

Our Specialized volunteer positions are outlined below. Once you are approved as a Special Olympics Colorado volunteer, we will visit with you in more detail about your area of interest.


Games Organizing Committee/Area Management Team

Our GOC is responsible for the organization and implementation of a Special Olympics Colorado competition at the Area of State Level. The GOC meets with SOCO staff once a month for three months prior to a state competition. There are various responsibilities on the GOC. Members are needed to help with coordinating specific sports by season, volunteer and families, support services etc.


Join our medical team here at SOCO! We are in need of current or retired medical professionals to be on-site at our local and state events throughout the year to assess and attend to medical emergencies. This team will receive a list of event dates for the year and asked to serve if available.

Office Support

Assist with data entry, mailings, filing, counting money, and other office-assistant type projects.


We are seeking volunteer photographers to shoot at SOCO competitions and fundraising events including but not limited to: Polar Plunge Series, Winter Games, State Basketball Championship, Summer Games, Summer Classic, Fall Classic, Flag Football Championship, Plane Pull, Project UNIFY youth leadership events, special events, clinics and programs. Volunteer Fairs

Attend and represent SOCO at community volunteer fairs around the state to distribute volunteer information and promote events.
