Male Athlete of the Month
Tony Cruz from Pueblo recently represented Special Olympics Colorado by throwing out the first pitch at a Skysox baseball game in Colorado Springs. Tony’s coach says that, “Tony is the ultimate competitor and at the same time he is an awesome teammate. No matter if he takes first or last his absolute love and joy of competing is infectious to all around him. Tony does not let anything stand in his way.” Congratulations Tony!
Milinda “Linny” Eilers
Female Athlete of the Month
Linny has competed in bocce the past two years and took first place at her first singles competition! Along with bocce, Linny participates year-round in Greeley in basketball, gymnastics and bowling. She is working tremendously hard on improving and developing her skills in all of these sports. Congratulations Linny!

Mike (Dad) and Colleen (Mom) have been a part of the regional management team for the Southeast Region for over a year. They are always looking for ways to support Special Olympics Colorado. Mike and Colleen go above and beyond hosting tables and participating in many of our events. Mike has been a coach for an adult flag football team and a junior level soccer team, on which his son Troy also participates. Mike has also been instrumental in developing junior level opportunities in the Southeast Region. Congratulations to the Gagliardi Family!
Volunteer of the Month
Jeremy is a teacher at Legend High School where he helps coordinate the Unified Champion Schools Program. Jeremy also volunteers throughout the year at various clinics and competitions, including this summer’s first ever Special Olympics summer basketball camp. Jeremy is always engaging the students at Legend and providing opportunities to get them involved. Thanks you Jeremy, for you continued dedication and commitment to Special Olympics Colorado!
Marcy has been a Special Olympics coach for over 20 years. He resides in Dolores, Colorado and coaches the Cortez bowling and basketball teams. Marcy has a son in the program and has coached unified sports as well as traditional teams. He always rallies his teams for local fundraisers to cover travel expenses for regional and state competitions. His thank you card to donors and sponsors is always a picture of his team that donors are proud to display. He has acted as a Local Program Coordinator in the past and is always looking for new coaches. Marcy has been an integral part of Special Olympics Colorado in Cortez. Thank you Marcy, for all you do for Special Olympics Colorado!
Congratulations to Subway Restaurants, Special Olympics Colorado’s community partner of the month! Subway has served as the presenting sponsor of SOCO’s Plane Pull for the past three years. As a result of Subway’s support of the plane pull, this popular event has raised nearly $400,000 for SOCO’s athletes! Subway locations statewide have also cumulatively donated more than $35,000 worth of lunches to regional and state-wide competitions to ensure that SOCO athletes and volunteers are well fed! Subway will be inducted into Special Olympics Colorado’s 2017 Hall of Fame as Community Partner of the Year in on September 28, as a result of their never-ending commitment to supporting the Special Olympics Colorado community.
